Recent figures of the Port of Zeebrugge show that 73 percent of all deepsea containervessels in Zeebrugge this year had a capacity of over 10.000 TEU. Last year this was 44 percent.
These striking figures prove a trend that has been going on for several years.
In 2010, 12 percent of the deepsea vessels had a capacity of 10.000 TEU. In 2012, the number went up to 60 percent.
This year, almost three quarters of all deepsea container vessels in Zeebrugge had a capacity of over 10.000 TEU. Moreover, 45 percent belongs to the plus 13.000 TEU category.
“The continuously growing dimensions in shipping pose a challenge to our port. We are continuously investing in the port infrastructure and the necessary logistical concept our port needs to keep handling these ever growing container vessels efficiently and productively in the future.”, says Joachim Coens, CEO of Port of Zeebrugge”
